How to enable respondent notifications

Open your form. Then, click settings in the upper right section. Next, toggle Respondent notifications. You can toggle Include a link to edit submission to allow your respondents to revise their answers later on. That’s it! Respondents will now automatically receive an email notification upon submission containing a summary of their responses like the one below.

Verify your account to send emails

If your organization was created on or after October 5, 2026 and is on the Free plan, you need to verify your account or upgrade to a paid plan before Fillout sends emails to respondents or other people outside your organization. Until then, these emails aren’t sent:

• Respondent notifications, and custom emails set up under the form’s Settings
• Abandoned form reminders

These emails aren’t sent either, unless you send them from a connected Gmail or Outlook account:

• Emails sent by workflows, including approval emails and CCs
• Forms sent by email from the Send form option or the API

To keep emailing respondents before you verify, create a custom email as a workflow and choose your Gmail or Outlook account under Send email from. Self-email notifications still go out, but only to members of your organization. The login page code is also sent, using the default wording. Your form still collects responses as usual. Only the emails are skipped.

Tailor messages depending on the response

You can send a different message to a group of respondents depending on the answers they have provided in the form through Custom emails. Choose Send email only if conditions match. Check out this quick guide.
